Our Story

Outsiderset was founded in 2018 by a group of lifelong outdoor adventurers—hikers, campers, climbers, and backpackers—who grew frustrated with the gap between overpriced, underperforming gear and affordable products that failed to withstand real-world outdoor conditions. What started as a small garage project in Boulder, Colorado, quickly evolved into a brand driven by a simple mission: to create gear that’s as bold and resilient as the people who use it.

We named ourselves Outsiderset for a reason: we’re the outsiders—those who trade sidewalks for trails, concrete for campfires, and comfort for adventure. The “set” represents the complete collection of gear we’ve curated to outfit every outdoor journey, from a day hike to a multi-week backpacking expedition. Our founders spent years testing prototypes in the Rockies, the Pacific Northwest, and the Southwest, refining every detail until each product met the rugged standards of the outdoor community we call our own.

Meet the Team

Our team is made up of outdoor lovers first, designers and makers second. From our product developers who test gear on weekend expeditions to our customer service team who answer your questions with firsthand outdoor knowledge, every member of the Outsiderset family shares a passion for the wild. We don’t just sell gear—we use it, too.

• Jesse Carter (Founder & CEO): A lifelong climber and backpacker who spent a decade guiding trips in the Rockies before launching Outsiderset. Jesse’s vision is to build a brand that puts the outdoor community first.
• Maya Lopez (Head of Design): An industrial designer with a background in outdoor gear engineering, Maya leads our design team in creating products that balance form and function. When she’s not in the studio, you’ll find her trail running in the Sierra Nevada.
• Eli Davis (Head of Sustainability): A conservation biologist who joined Outsiderset to lead our environmental initiatives. Eli works with suppliers to source eco-friendly materials and partners with nonprofits to protect wilderness areas.
